Torrents 101

So you've heard people talking about torrents or you even saw the link online. You have no idea whatsoever. That's about to change.just pay attention and maybe grab a pen and notepad.

What are Torrents?
A torrent file is a small computer file allowing a computer user locate other users
computer of the peer-to-peer file sharing network with copies of
parts of a large file or wanting parts of that large file, to get a copy
of that large file in pieces from wherever it may be found across
that global internet or to share what pieces the user has,
reciprocally.
Complex right?..... let me explain, imagine a book with 60 pages given to a class of 20 students, they rush for the page and all get different bits of the book. Some a page, some 20 pages, some maybe the hard cover, some the preface...you get the gist....
Now,student A has pages 9,5 and 16 and needs page 1 to 8, he would go meet a student that either has 1 to 8 or he individually gets each page from the different students that have the pages. He's got 9,5 and 16. Whoever needs these pages would have to get them also from him.
He would keep getting this pages bits by bits till he gets the whole book.

How does it work?
Torrent files are created, opened, managed by torrent clients. A good example are Utorrent,Bitorrent,Vuze... you can google them and download them,i use Utorrent on my PC and Android. All available for free, special functions required premium purchases.

Using Torrent files
Lots of websites ,users and the likes distribute files via torrents. You can search for torrents on websites like kickass.to, piratebay, isohunt, limetorrent etc i recommend kickass.to,nice interface. Search for the torrent you want and a long list would come up

Choosing torrent to download
A lot of things should be checked while choosing torrent files to download.
1. Seed and peers
2. User comments
3. Health
4. Size
More details would be discussed in the next class, take some time to revise all you've learnt from torrents 101 and get ready for torrent 102.
